General

Is Posterity Open Source?

Yes, Posterity is released under the BSD license.

This looks like an interesting project, how can I contribute?

The wiki page HowToContribute describes how you can contribute to this project, even if you're not a programmer. The page also lists some low-hanging fruit.

Why not use Gmail or Yahoo mail instead?

Well, Gmail is a very nice mail service. But a lot of people feel uneasy about storing their personal information on Google's servers; it might even be against most companies' corporate policy to store email information outside the organization.

Also since Gmail isn't Open Source it's not possible to install Gmail on your own servers or even to customize it.

I think I've found a bug, how do I report it?

You can either open a new ticket by clicking on the "New Ticket" link at the top of the page or send a mail to the Posterity Mailing list.

Configuration And Usage

Can Posterity pull messages directly from pop3/imap servers?

No, not currently. For now Posterity only supports injecting messages using the posterity-admin inject command as described here. The next version (0.6) will provide a tool for pulling messages directly from pop3 and imap servers. Milestone 0.6 already supports pulling messages.
